Update: New Cold War?

This is an update about the argument over plans by Bush/Condi to put a 'missile shield' in Central Europe, near the Russian borders.

In my opinion, there is a somewhat encouraging headline this morning:

BUSH PLAYS DOWN ROW WITH RUSSIA

The BBC

Here is an excerpt:
"US President George W Bush has again tried to soothe a row with Russia at the start of a G8 summit in Germany.

"Mr Bush said the row over a missile defence shield was 'nothing we ought to be hyperventilating about.'

"Mr Bush, who is to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin for private talks, again urged Moscow to send generals to the US to be reassured about the plan."

==========
However: I also think his language "nothing to hyperventilate about" is juvenile in this context. The Russians are telling us that we are on a dangerous course. Does Bush see why? I'm not sure.

GORBACHEV: The former President of Russia, has warned us not to be so arrogant because it could start a new Cold War.

PUTIN: Current "President" of Russia Vladimir Putin has threatened to target missiles on Europe if we try to put a missile shield there.
