They're Coming To Take Me Away (File #4)

Drunk Teen Smashes into MADD Checkpoint
Sept. 1, 2007

Toronto (The Star ) -A teenage drunk driver plowed into a RIDE spot-check early this morning, causing $20,000 in damage to a police cruiser and sending officers diving for cover.About six members from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) as well as officers from 14 Division and Traffic Services were operating a RIDE spot-check on Bloor St. W. near Old Mill Dr. when a 1996 westbound Ford Explorer approached the spot-check around 1 a.m.

The 18-year-old driver of the Explorer, travelling at around 60 km/h, plowed straight into the RIDE sign before taking out a number of traffic cones blocking off those operating the check and their vehicles. He then drove into the back of one of the parked, fully-marked police vehicles, which had its emergency lights activated. CLICK

Ya know, I'm against roadblocks. I'm against drunk drivers, too. But, I am against road blox more. If you want to catch drunk drivers, sit in a bar parking lot. If a drunk comes out of the bar and gets in a car...stop them. Obviously the teen wasn't in a bar. So, find parties. I just don't agree with making hundreds and hundreds of innocent people stop for the check.
