Oh, For Cryin' Out Loud

What they're showing in Milan at the fashion show.

Would you want your woman wearing this?

I used to think along similar lines, but now I think of all this fashion stuff as just another form of art. Unfortunately, it's like a lot of modern art that I don't appreciate. Plus, this high fashion stuff probably does influence what is mass produced for the average woman to wear, which changes every year, and encourages rampant consumerism and waste.

On the rare occasions when I venture out in public, I see that most young and young-ish women look almost exactly like the women on the covers of the magazines my wife reads, at least in terms of their clothing and accessories. The men who keep up with fashion trends - the so called "metrosexuals" - are still firmly in the minority. Frankly, most young men look like complete slobs. But who am I to judge?

If I take Irene rightly, then I'm ashamed for discouraging the efforts of creative minds. If I take "anonymous" rightly, then I guess we can expect the young women to all look like fuchsia gardens next spring. Ye-Gods! I feel conflicted!

If Patricia comes home with one of those, what will I do? Applaud it or fertilize it?

You could express your creativity and prune it - you may create the next trendy look. Or you could water it, but you'd better wait til she takes it off.
