I think this hurts all of us, no matter which side we are on. If you think Congress is bought off and in the hands of the big corporations now, you ain’t seen nuthin yet !!!

This is our Supreme Court at work !!!

I would like to know what you all think – I am sending this to all my politically interested friends, right left and in the middle. Maybe I am making too much of this -----

It is bad news for democracy. Welcome to corporatocracy. If the Constitution is there to protect the rights of individuals and limit the powers of government, what is there to protect the people from the power of corporations? Corporations get all the rights of individuals, yet have little of the responsibilities. Their only imperative is to make a profit, and increasingly bigger profits. That allows them to act like psychopaths. First - I don't think the rights of people should be extended to corporations. Two - I don't think things are going to become any more "transparent" Money (and lots of it) will just be laundered through companies with super wonderful fuzzy names to disguise the real donors. Meanwhile, your average person is meant to be able to distinguish the real donor and their motives while sitting in their chair watching TV. Good bye democracy.

I have always believed that election campaigns should be paid for by the public. This way, standards could be set and limits imposed. It is, IMO, foolish to have campaigns that last years and now will be financially unlimited.

I know that there is a Freedom of Speech issue but am of the opinion that the Supreme Court has come down on the wrong side of that.

I also agree with Irene's point #2. I am wondering whether her first point about profits is any longer true. As long as the stock floats, the investors will be there, profits or no.

I take your point about the profit thing. The purpose is to provide a return to shareholders for their investment. These days the profitability of a company does not necessarily relate to the share price. The stock market is more like a casino!

I agree with Irene. If corps have the same rights as individuals, which wall street corps are going to jail or even being prosecuted.

"nonsensical-to-the-point-of-parody" is how I read the decision described as today.... The NRA should take a case to the Supreme Court to test any and all of the constraints to the 2nd amendment while the going is good! Woo hoo - bazookas for all!

We all saw what wonderful antics "big corporations" are capable of (as well as how responsibly they can spend money) during the whole Bank-in-the-Tank process...

Democracy? It kissed it's own ass good-bye years ago.
