Wargear and Wonder

I have often heard it said that the money spent by the U.S. on space exploration is "a waste" or is "an extravagance."

I have often heard it said that there are plenty of problems here on earth that we should be solving instead of throwing away money on space adventures.

And yet, when I hear about the hundreds of billions of our dollars thrown at warfare in the Middle East, I think that where there are space helmets there is advance, but where there are military helmets there is loss.
