soccer update

BRAZIL 3 - U.S. 2

Today, the U.S. ended the Confederation competition in second place behind Brazil.

The U.S. team played very well, though not as well as they can.

Next, the further challenge of qualifying for next year's World Cup.

The U.S. played one very good half against Brazil, and one very bad half. Unfortunately, their bad half was much worse than their good half was good.

It is a mystery how a team can collapse like they did. It's one thing if you get beaten by Brazil -- no dishonor in that, perhaps. But to be so close to such an important victory, and to fall apart so dramatically?

There are "good" losses, but this was not one of them.

If this was your football team, and they were up 14-0 at halftime of the Super Bowl, and lost 21-14, you wouldn't call it a moral victory.

Maybe they should change tha name to "Socker" and put boxing gloves on the participants it would get more popular with American audiences !!

Republicans especially would like it, since it would involve busting stuff up for no good reason.

Not sure it matters if it gets more popular, except the number of games covered by American TV might increase.
