Goodbye to "Mama Africa," Miriam Makeba..
.. a great singing artist who was one of the first to bring African music to the rest of the world. She was very special activist against apartheid and other injustices in South Africa. For many years she was not allowed in her country. She was an under-publicized and under -appreciated person. I played her music in my classes each year and parents would be surprised that I knew of her.
She was cheated and robbed but shared what she had.
She died onstage in Italy, November 9.
