Goodbye James J. Kilpatrick

"He was a hell of a guy!"

Although I rarely agreed with your politics, I almost always agreed with your language lessons.

The absolute last as a breed unless you count Flint, Michigan local columnist Andy Heller and his apostrophe mis-use crusade.

My crusty deceased father-in-law
cured me of "you know " many decades ago by repeatedly ( and maybe a tad rudely ) by saying " No, I don't know " after each and every one of my usages. I still have an occasional lapse, but Mr. Kilpatrick would have been proud of him.

Can anyone think of the other writer who used to write a wonderful and humorous grammar and usage column in the Sunday newspapers a few years ago ???
