In 2008, Jackson Browne sued John McCain and the Republican Party for using this song without permission in political ads. There was a public apology issued, and an out-of-court settlement for an undiscloed amount of moneySome people once thought this song was about truck driving, but of course, it's about something else entirely. There are people (ahem!) who were 17 in 1965, and 21 in 1969, and about whom these lines may still be highly relevant!
